OBOW Light Travel Forum > Confused Over All the New TSA/Customs Programs

I am confused over all the different programs like Pre-Check, Global Entry, Nexus, Trusted Traveler, etc., etc. Please explain which agency (TSA, Customs, etc) runs what program and how each works??

TSA runs Pre-Check. It helps you get through security faster: no shoes off, no computers out, separate lane, etc. It's only available at a few airports and with a few airlines.

Customs & Border Protection (CBP) runs Global Entry. It, too, is only available at a few U.S. based international ariports and helps you get through immigration and customs faster.

Nexus is a program to expedite clearance between the U.S. and Canada whether it be by land, sea or air.

All of the above programs require application and pre-screening for approval. They must be done separately.

Trusted Traveler Programs is the name used to encompass all of the expedited travel programs offered by the U.S. government. These include the three mentioned above and a few aimed at commercial traffic.

Here's a website that explains the two top programs:

The TSA's newest program officially called Full Disclosure:

Declothed (Nude) Traveler pat, probe and scope! (PPS)

Allows you to get thru security quickly. TSA checks you inside and outside and the pat down is minimal. An additional benefit is that they usually don't post the video on the web.****  *******

**** Entry into this program requires governmental approval and your ability to bend at the waist.

******* A limited experimental program is being conducted to see if it is feasible to allow passengers to keep their shoes on.

Anyone on here a participant in any of these programs? If so, your opinion? Are they worth it?
